Brutalism finds balance in Apartment 29

Studio Metanoia transforms a dated ‘90s flat into a brooding yet balanced retreat – where concrete, steel and silence become tools for introspection and intentional living.

With a reputation for crafting emotionally resonant spaces, Studio Metanoia brings its “Feeling First” philosophy to life in Apartment 29 – a 1,367-square-foot home that blurs the line between architecture and atmosphere. The award-winning studio, known for its mindful and transformative designs, sees this project as more than a renovation – it’s a study in sensory depth, material honesty, and human connection.

Set within a late-‘90s apartment, the interiors are stripped down to their elemental core. A palette of moody greys and deep blacks creates a quiet, contemplative mood, while the raw beauty of concrete, troweled cement, and steel is allowed to speak for itself. Surfaces aren’t concealed or corrected; instead, their natural imperfections are embraced, turning walls and floors into a living texture.

At the heart of the dining area, a bespoke stainless steel table – crafted in collaboration with local artisans Baremetal – reflects Studio Metanoia’s respect for craftsmanship and detail. It glows under the sculptural framework of Mario Tsai’s Mazha Lighting System 5.0, whose soft, linear illumination mirrors the rigour and restraint of the architecture.

The layout flows openly but with intention. Curtain partitions soften transitions between spaces, offering privacy without severing connection. In the master suite, a work-and-rest zone unfolds with sculptural fluidity, merging a reading corner, walk-in wardrobe, and en-suite into a unified sanctuary.

Apartment 29 goes beyond visual appeal – it’s a home designed to evoke emotion. From the textured surfaces of the cement walls to the intentional simplicity of each space, the design reflects Studio Metanoia’s belief that interiors should support clarity, calm, and emotional well-being.

It’s a quiet study in slow living, expressed through steel, stone, and considered restraint. Brutalist in form, yet warm in intent, this is a home that invites reflection and presence.
