This residence envisioned by the creative minds at Urban Delineation embodies durability, elegance and a love for hospitality. Affectionately named ‘Steel House’, it elegantly weaves together the passions of its owners, Qingyang and Cheryl, two professional chefs whose lives revolve around gastronomy, coffee culture and musical harmony.
A home should do more than shelter; it should narrate the story of its inhabitants. For Qingyang and Cheryl, this meant shaping an environment that mirrored their dynamic lifestyle – an oasis for winding down after long workdays, yet one equally adept at hosting spirited gatherings.
“They desired a space that balanced warmth and efficiency, a place where the soul of a cafe meets the comfort of home, making every gathering feel like an intimate event,” muses Urban Delineation’s Design Principal, Bryan Chng, who led the design transformation.
Defying conventional partitions, the flat’s open-concept design dissolves boundaries between the living, dining, and kitchen areas. A masterstroke of flexibility, the reversible TV feature wall – clad in brushed steel panels from Lamitak – acts as a rotating centrepiece, ensuring seamless engagement whether lounging or dining.
“Serving as a welcoming reception area for guests, the two-sided coffee island bar creates volumes that further blur the boundaries between defined spaces,” shares Bryan. Its surface, a cutting-edge FENIX thermal-healing material, repels micro-scratches and retains its lustrous finish despite constant use. “Durability was key, especially in frequently used spaces. The steel countertop provides both longevity and an understated industrial elegance,” says the designer.
For a home that thrives on communal experiences, adaptability was paramount. The union of an open-concept coffee island and a transformative TV partition fosters a dynamic interplay of spaces, allowing the home to fluidly shift between vibrant gatherings and intimate solitude.
Offering a more private sanctuary is the master bedroom, which echoes nature’s tranquillity. A lightweight granite-textured fibreglass wall extends seamlessly into the glass-enclosed walk-in closet, subtly reflecting the verdant landscapes of the nearby nature park visible through the windows. Paired with vinyl flooring for its tactile warmth and resilience, this design fosters a resort-like oasis, enhancing the cocooning ambience.
Throughout the home, existing features like polished tiles, wooden doors and vinyl flooring were retained and seamlessly woven into the design. Rather than stripping away these standard BTO elements, Bryan elevated them through curated pairings, ensuring a holistic aesthetic.
At the foyer, a natural marble settee sourced from Earth Arts offers guests an inviting perch upon entry. Flanked by tinted glass front cabinets, it sets a tone of understated luxury. Beyond its material beauty, Steel House embodies intentional craft – one where every detail is meticulously considered and every corner holds a purpose. It is a home where the aroma of coffee lingers, where laughter reverberates off steel and stone, and where everyday moments are enjoyed with ease.
