The launch of the IKEA catalogue is always a highly anticipated event for IKEA fans, and this latest 2019 edition is no exception, especially given its movement towards a more editorial look and feel.
“The functionality of a catalogue can be found online these days. What we want to show in a physical catalogue is something very tactile: how the pages feel in your hands, the moodiness of the pictures… we believe these will look amazing in print,” says Mike King, Deputy Managing Director at IKEA Southeast Asia. “We feel we have a role to play in inspiring people on how to live a better life, and we think this catalogue is a really good tool for doing that.”
IKEA’s 2019 focus is to “make home count”, and this first of two IKEA Catalogues for the new year sees a host of product solutions aimed at helping people organise their living and create feel-good homes for themselves.
This direction is based off its commissioned Life at Home Report where 54 per cent of Singaporeans surveyed said that their main household arguments were over what constituted a “mess” in the home.
The new catalogue addresses the desire for a more organised life through products set in seven different, distinct living scenarios. For example, Haven in the City is all about having a space to relax and recharge; Full House focuses on creating space for the entire family; and Open up to Change features multi-functional and flexible furniture and solutions that provide comfort and choice.
– “We know that the number one frustration is having too much stuff, stuff that you need to store. So this catalogue features a lot of storage solutions.”
– “Personalisation and individualisation is a massive trend. It’s a real movement, all over the world.”
The new SAMMANHANG collection, coming this September, celebrates the art of collecting and display. Aside from storage, it allows you to highlight your most cherished items and create personalised focal points
– “At the same time, we know that being at home, being together with the family, is also still super important for people. However, finding space at home is increasingly difficult with people living in smaller and smaller spaces.”
– “Healthy lifestyle is a global trend, and this translates into the desire for healthy environments – spaces that are relaxed and calm.”
– “People are also now very interested in products that are multi-functional.”
The second 2019 IKEA Catalogue will launch in February 2019. Customers can view the latest catalogue in-store and at IKEA.sg/catalogue. Copies will also be distributed to pre-determined homes across Singapore.
