What do you do when you want your home to transcend design fads and trends? Design firm Urban Habitat’s response to such a request for this HDB maisonette in Hougang came in the form of a white canvas that is as refreshing as it is flexible. Not only does it provide the home with a brighter, airier disposition, it also lets the designers and owners choose a variety of material accents without worrying about them clashing.

In the living room, shiny, white floor tiles, an ivory feature wall panel and matching shelves reinforce the overarching colour theme. To prevent the space from feeling stark, the designers conscientiously added softer elements such as billowy curtains, a comfortable leather sofa and a cosy rug.

The Urban Habitat designers took on a more practical approach in the kitchen. The area is segregated from the rest of the home by a sliding glass door. This way, fumes are kept from nearby areas without closing the cooking space entirely. Also of note are the additional storage spaces under the kitchen counter that are accessible from the living room.
