When a couple working in the creative and design industries set out to renovate their five-room BTO at Champions Way, they were clear about one thing: they didn’t want a home that felt decorated for show. Instead, they envisioned a space that was purposeful, practical, and punctuated with just enough surprises to keep things interesting.

The design, led by Joshua Wee of Threehaus Works, takes its cues from “bold simplicity”—a principle that’s deceptively tricky to nail down. Here, it translates into a home that doesn’t try too hard, yet reveals layers of personality through unexpected colour choices, playful details, and a sense of curation rather than clutter.

Take the living room: it’s anchored by a green sofa that feels confident without being loud, while loose furniture solutions keep things flexible for the future. Lighting comes courtesy of design icons like Flos’ Parentesi and Mayday, but the overall vibe is relaxed, not museum-like.

In the kitchen, terracotta tiles mark a threshold between foyer/kitchen and living area. The integration of sunny yellow cabinetry on the island brings warmth and an almost cheeky counterpoint to the otherwise grounded palette. Elsewhere, Vitsoe’s 606 Universal Shelving System adds utilitarian precision without killing the mood.

The main bedroom is where space planning does the heavy lifting: by combining two rooms, the couple gained breathing space for both a larger wardrobe and a true retreat for rest. Instead of a solid door between zones, a curtain softens the threshold—a small detail that says a lot about how the home is lived in. Pops of red on wardrobe handles keep the energy from dipping into monotone.

Bathrooms, too, get their share of personality. The master bath embraces subway tiles for a grounded feel, while the common bath plays up simple grid tiles with a twist—orange grout and a powder-coated shower detail that add a flash of fun where you least expect it. Even the bedroom doors got the treatment: contrasting colours and bright ABS trims that make everyday transitions a little more exciting.

For all the clever touches, what stands out most is the collaboration between designer and homeowners. Both sides pushed ideas—whether it was bold trim colours or unconventional details—and the result is a home that wears its personality lightly but unmistakably. It’s expressive, functional, and above all, liveable: a modern BTO that understands restraint, but still knows when to play.
