In this semi-detached house designed by Black N White Haus, eastern aesthetics meets western modernity. The result is a warm and relaxing living space for a couple in their 50s, their teenage son and the family dog. This Bali-inspired, East meets West landed residence is also a mini gallery for the homeowners’ extensive collection of sculptures and ornaments. As such, one of the designers’ requirements was to build a space to display the art collection.
Unsurprisingly, no details were spared in the dining room, which is a crucial space for an avid cook and frequent host. This is especially true with the exquisite Venatino marble floors that ground the space. The long wooden dining table and high-back chairs feature woven designs that are reminiscent of a rustic retreat. Meanwhile, prized art pieces along the walls act as a conversation-starter at family gatherings.
During his free time, the husband enjoys cooking up a storm in his playground – an inviting and spacious kitchen. Every inch of this open-concept kitchen was well-considered, from the generosity of space to the efficient storage options. The designers built a lavish marble island and complemented it with black countertops and Italian mosaic tiles on the backsplash.
The high ceiling in this semi-detached house was optimised to showcase the homeowners’ extensive art collection. Atop the television console, a travertine marble-clad feature wall and built-in shelving proudly host Southeast Asian sculptures and ornaments gleaned from travels over the years. The worldly combination of styles creates a sense of wanderlust in the home of these frequent travellers.
