Project type: 4-room HDB flat
Floor area: 900sqft
Embracing a predominantly dark theme characterised by black carpentry and flooring, the designers at Happe Design Atelier ensured that the space did not feel confined. The living, kitchen and dining areas are connected in an open layout with subtle demarcations. Despite its modest size, the living space feels warm – enhanced by cove lighting and a bespoke cantilever television console that visually elongates the room. A glass divider was introduced in the foyer for privacy.
The reconfigured layout eliminates the existing kitchen entrance, creating space for a discreet laundry area concealed by the dry pantry, which accommodates a double-door fridge and a water dispenser for the convenient hosting of guests. Ample storage hides unsightly systems like water sewage piping, the washer-dryer and heater. There is even space in front of the pantry for activities like mahjong.
In the master bedroom, a rich, dark ambience is created with the use of dark woodgrain laminates extending from the headboard to the wardrobe. Consistency is maintained through dark stain finishes on the existing parquet flooring. The space is brightened by the presence of slim bedside pendant lamps and a pop of colour on the bedframe.
In the master bathroom, the sleek black-on-black theme continues seamlessly – balanced by the inclusion of a curved pedestal vanity sink that imparts a softer aesthetic. The bathroom incorporates a palette of black, grey and metallic layers to enhance the overall design. The tiling is consistent with the master bedroom.
