A couple in their 50s with two teenage daughters sought AMP Design Co.’s Design Director, Amanda Pang, to rejuvenate their newly bought resale inter-terrace house, which was in a cramped and outdated state. “The brief was for an adaptable family home that also reflected the female homeowner’s cheerful personality,” Amanda explains.

A colonial black-and-white theme was proposed, highlighted by vivid paintings and tiles that evoke a lively atmosphere. Significant modifications were made to enhance the living area’s layout. “We turned the outdoor balcony into an indoor bay window and foyer, creating an inviting entrance into the home,” says Amanda.

A rich layering of textures makes this kitchen a dreamy tropical oasis to cook and entertain. One wall features botanicalmotif tiles, beautifully paired with rattan bar stools and a peninsula counter with curved edges. The wood-inspired tiled flooring and ceiling beams give the space warmth.

An air well on the first storey presented a perfect opportunity for Amanda to transform this space into a multipurpose area for indoor gardening and basking under the sun. She adds: “A powder room has been introduced at the back, and the high pitched ceiling was maximised to build a loft area on the second level.”

Like the rest of the home, the powder room exudes a lush, tropical ambience with its vibrant botanical-themed wallpaper. The airy space features a standout green basin, complemented by dark wood finishes and chic gold trimmings all set against a charming view of the air well.

Amanda tackled the limited space with creative flair by integrating a spiral staircase beside the second-storey study area. She shares: “By opening up the pitched roof, we created an additional reading loft. A spiral staircase was incorporated, and glass panels were used to bring in more light and enhance the sense of space in the study room.”

Stepping into the walk-in wardrobe feels like entering a realm of elegance, accentuated by grand arched doors with fluted glass and brass handles. A seamless flow of dark wood finishes enhances both the flooring and vanity table, adding warmth and sophistication. Concealed within the wardrobe doors is the entrance to the master bathroom which adds an element of surprise.

Originally confined by a low ceiling, the once-cramped master bedroom was completely refreshed when Amanda removed the false ceiling to reveal its full height. She enhanced the newfound openness with cove lighting, further accentuating the room’s spacious dimensions.
