In the leafy surrounds of Mount Sinai Rise, a family of four sought more than just a home – they envisioned a refined, functional sanctuary that could adapt to both their day-to-day routines and social aspirations. The result is an artful reinterpretation of a 2,300-square-foot condominium that blends privacy, style and seamless spatial flow.
The original space featured three sizeable bedrooms, a large kitchen, and a living/dining area with two balconies. Yet, despite its generous proportions, the standard layout didn’t align with the family’s needs: the couple works from home regularly, their sons are growing into their own spaces, and they all have a penchant for hosting friends. Recognising the potential to reimagine each space, the designers at Artistroom embarked on a complete overhaul, stripping back walls to form a bespoke layout that accommodates both communal gatherings and private escapes.
Key to the new design is the expanded living and dining area, now bathed in natural light and reconnected with the outdoor space. By absorbing an adjoining balcony in the dining area, the layout not only maximises usable square footage but also allows for larger gatherings and easier transitions between spaces. Bedroom two, meanwhile, benefits from this expansion, gaining extra room, and there’s now even a dedicated store area as well.
The reconfiguration has allowed for the clients’ much desired wet and dry kitchen, and caters for the yard, helper’s room and powder room – all discreetly incorporated for seamless daily living.
Foregoing the traditional rectangular island, the design team introduced a diamond arch shape at both ends of the island that directs traffic naturally around the kitchen, maintaining an inviting openness. The island’s sculptural form also ensures that it doesn’t obstruct the flow from the entrance – its presence is felt, yet it doesn’t dominate, setting the tone for the home’s refined aesthetic.
A series of thoughtful adjustments cater to the couple’s work-from-home requirements. The master suite, for instance, has been enlarged and now features a walk-in wardrobe as well as an integrated study nook that’s a sanctuary for uninterrupted work hours.
Material choices play a starring role in the transformation. Large-format, stone-patterned tiles lend a cool sophistication, grounding the design with a sense of permanence. Meanwhile, textured wall finishes add depth and tactility, inviting touch and creating pockets of interest throughout. Rich walnut veneer punctuates the interiors, casting warmth to soften the sleek, minimalist interiors.
While the bedroom walls were pushed out toward the living area, reducing some of the original natural light source, the designers addressed this by placing full-height mirrors strategically to reflect light and open up the space visually.
The result is a residence that embodies both elegance and ease – a thoughtfully curated sanctuary where each element is in sync with the family’s lifestyle. Blending understated luxury with purpose-driven design, this Leighwoods apartment is poised to support the family’s evolving needs, from intimate gatherings to quiet workdays. It’s a home where function and beauty coalesce, underscoring the family’s values and the spirit of timeless, contemporary living.
