A master of lighting design, Poul Henningsen is perhaps best known for his PH Artichoke lamp. The lamp and several others, produced by Louis Poulsen, have since become mid-century modern icons coveted by design lovers around the world. Collectors of Poul’s designs are likely to rejoice in Louis Poulsen’s PH Limited Edition 2019: the PH 3/2 Amber Coloured Glass Floor Lamp.
Dubbed ‘The Water Pump’, the mid-century lamp presents an adjustable arm that can be levered up and down. It produces soft lighting, thanks to the iconic three-shade system that Poul invented in 1926. With the reflective system, the lamp directs most of the light downwards to enhance illumination while reducing glare. First introduced in the 1950s, this year’s limited edition design features mouth-blown glass in a luxurious amber hue. Golden on both sides, its slight translucency elicits a warm and inviting light that is perfect for cosy areas within the home.
Poul’s long collaboration with Louis Poulsen, from 1925 to his demise in 1967, produced designs in colours that excited design enthusiasts. The PH 3/2 Amber Coloured Glass Floor Lamp is particularly appealing with its soft, golden glow. The brushed brass base, stem and arms are untreated to develop a patina over time. The elegant combination stands beautifully in the living room, study and bedroom of luxe homes.
In honour of Poul’s legacy, the PH Limited Edition 2019 will be available for a limited period from 1 October to 31 December 2019. The mid-century lamp is a design to be treasured for generations to come.
