In addition to hosting one of our Design Conversation panels, Journey East will also present three installations spread around the showroom by some of Singapore’s best emerging young studios: Wynk Collaborative, Feral and UPSTAIRS_. See them at Journey East, #03-02, Tan Boon Liat Building.
UPSTAIRS_ drew inspiration from the genesis of the Tala bulb: elevating the humble light bulb to a design object. The team’s interactive light sculpture can be controlled by the viewer by means of an electronic dimming switch, showcasing Tala’s spectacular dimming spectrum.
As a nod to Tala’s ethos of sustainability, the structure and components are designed as a modular kit-of-parts. As such, the installation can be dismantled for re-use in the hope of creating zero waste.
Wynk Collaborative is presenting pieces from Journey East’s vintage furniture collection in a fresh new way, using folded metal plates to add function and expression. The ‘Lichen’ installation presents a series of prototype objects designed to be attachments to vintage furniture pieces. They’re both functional and ornamental, making the old new again.
Made from bent metal and rendered in blocks of colour, juxtaposing with the mellow wood grains of the vintage pieces, the attachments for a relationship with the vintage pieces that is jarring yet harmonious at the same time.
The various attachments imbue a variety of functions to their vintage substrate according to their shapes and may be used individually or in combination, breathing new life into the charm of yesteryear.
Inspired by the playful shape of the Qeeboo Rabbit chair, Feral creates a safe space for the seven artists/creatives who are participating in Journey East’s project to reimagine the chair. Where is the safe space? Under a giant carrot-shaped disco ball! Hence the installation’s title: Fast Slow Disco.
The message conveyed by the installation is one of inclusivity and a celebration of diversity through the language of design.
The Seven Qeeboo Rabbit chairs that will be showcased at Fast Slow Disco are one of a kind creations by stylist Aaron Han, drag queen Becca D’Bus, calligraphy atelier Craft Varies, illustrator Kristal Melson, artist MessyMsxi, branding studio Restless, and jewellery label State Property.
And these chairs will be auctioned off online! All nett proceeds from the auction will be donated to Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF). CCF is a social service agency that provides children with cancer and their families the much-needed support in their battle against the life-threatening illness.
Create an account and start bidding on 12 October 2019, 09:00 AM SGT. The auction will be concluded on 20 October 2019, 11:45 PM SGT.
Kreon teams up with studiogoto to redefine the roles of vertical and horizontal architectural elements. Ceilings and walls interchange to craft space through a seamless flow of planes. Kreon’s minimalist architectural lighting products will find their natural place in this modular system. Pushing the boundaries of spatial flexibility!

Greenlam partners with Index Design. Reminiscing the old times when listening to song birds was a common activity in HDB estates, this installation serves as a conversation starter and gathering point. It relives the vibrancy of this dwindling practice through punchy coloured laminates that change gradually as you walk round, as though bringing you back through the passage of time.

The Cinnamon Room partners with design studio Fraction for a vertical installation made with all manner of soft furnishings. Think a plush oasis with vibrant colours and exquisite textures from carpets, cushions and more.
