Architecture buffs will be excited to attend Archifest, commencing in just a few days!

The annual architecture festival will be on from 4 to 15 October 2017, and features a line-up of over 50 events held at various locations in Singapore.

This year’s theme of ‘Building Agency’ “emphasises the facilitating and building up of agency and citizen participation through architecture. It foregrounds the agency of buildings as important materials and spaces of urban life and is about an empowerment of people as active agents in the making of our built environment.”

But it’s not just for architecture industry professionals and students, but for everyone with an interest and fascination for urban design, the city and built environment, thanks to its inclusive and diverse programme!

Here are festival highlights that you shouldn’t miss.

#1 Experience awe-inspiring homes and public venues at Architours

Curated and led by The Architecture Society (TAS) of National University of Singapore, Architours is a series of eight tours to Singapore’s architectural gems, both old and new, hidden and public. Visit spaces, including commercial locations and homes (for example, House of a Collector and Brick House) designed by the members of Singapore Institute of Architects, and gain insights to the interesting processes of design and construction. Go behind-the-scenes with the architects, while experiencing the beautiful spaces first-hand!

#2 Pick up a new skill from the Archicraft workshops

Fancy learning 3D printing, sketching, drone photography or urban farming? Archicraft is a range of workshops that provides participants the opportunity to get involved with various topics that are relevant in society and the urban environment today. There are eight workshops to choose from, such as An Eye for Details, Edible Gardens and City Sketching.

There’s even The Great Architectural Bake-Off (GABO) happening, which will put some of Singapore’s top architects and designers to the test, as they compete to build some iconic buildings entirely out of cake!
