Extending a sophisticated welcome right from the front entrance, the design brief for this condominium unit was to create an inviting living space for the young couple living here. Managing Director Aaron Poh of AP Concept, who headed the renovation, says: “They wanted a warm and homely feel, and I decided on an interplay of marble-look laminates and mirror finishes to project a cosy yet refined style.”
The features are well-reflected in the communal zones, where a custom-designed ensemble of tinted mirror strips on the marble-effect laminate coverings takes centrestage as the feature wall. For the dining zone, patterns and warmth are conveyed by the wallpaper which anchors the dining room wall. Modern touches such as cove lighting and a contemporary-style chandelier temper the heavy textures and bring a spacious expanse of space.
Making a clean-lined impression, the material palette in the foyer comprises of pristine white laminates outlined by gold-brushed laminate trimmings. Marble-effect laminate backings and striped wallpaper ensure design consistency and imbue opulent textures into the space. Says Aaron: “I like how the entrance walkway turned out. It has been specially catered to host the Buddha portrait and it has turned out to be very welcoming, together with the spotlights and lightly-patterned striped wallpaper.”
In contrast to the luxurious touches in the communal areas, the study is decidedly more modern. The workstations with their laid-back appeal sport matte laminates in a warm neutral tone. Practicality can be found within the overhead cabinetry, showcase and shelving which maximise the wall space. These storage fixtures add plenty of functionality to the room, without compromising on the walking room.
Though the master bedroom came with a pre-fitted wardrobe, Aaron found that it did not maximise the wall space well. He then extended the top portion with additional cabinetry and it is now flush against the wall. The recessed wall on the other end has also been put to good use by incorporating a hanging vanity table and mirror for the homeowners’ grooming needs.
Through these thoughtful design considerations and a cohesive design language, AP Concept has indeed upped the ante of living well with this welcoming and aesthetically pleasing home.
