Many of us have the impression that showflats host over-the-top or unattainable designs. But this one by designer Latif Salem of Image Creative Design features a good balance of design practicality and pizzazz. The showflat bears a modern colour palette punctuated with industrial-style accents. In the living room, open display shelving flank both sides of the TV console. Adjacent to it is a powder coated black metal divider adorned with similar laminate finishes as the TV console for design uniformity.
Likewise, a chic divider stands between the dining room and the kitchen. It is constructed out of black powder coated metal and outlined by perforated sheets. Though segregated, the two communal zones still maintain a good level of interaction.
Taking centerstage in this open cookspace is a waterfall island counter that features a Caesarstone quartz worktop. The gorgeous grey stone finish of the quartz surface sets off a pared back industrial touch, which contrasts well with the other counters in pristine white laminate finish. The kitchen also has a full-height cabinetry, which houses built-in appliances in a sleek and seamless order.
Anchoring the dining room is an impressive full-height mirror wall. Latif artfully pieced together mirror panels of varying sizes to create a contemporary installation outlined by a black powder coated metal frame. This industrial metal accent creates a visual connection, which links the dining room with the rest of the showflat.
Distinctive wall laminate coverings clad the walls of the walkway. They bear different finishes of wood and cement textures on either side. This pairing of cool and warm design accents lends a striking and understated design tone to the otherwise inconspicuous corridor. It fulfils the modern-industrial aesthetic too.
Cement-effect laminate coverings scale the wall of the bedroom, creating a cool industrial edge against the modern backdrop of light wood textures. The custom-built ensemble of furnishings such as the bedframe, study desk and storage fixtures bears similar wood-effect finish, and this creates a soothing ambience. Furthermore, the wood-look laminate finish of the wardrobe blends into the entire setting seamlessly. Meanwhile, LED lighting strips further enhances the mood.
