The base palette for this entire apartment is composed of light marble floors, and textured black ash veneer with solid black and taupe laminates. “The textured black ash veneer adds depth as well as layer and contrast against the Fenix laminates with low light reflectivity and extremely opaque surfaces. This gives the space visual interest,” explains the detail-oriented designer Joey Khu.

Sleek thin linear timber strips tone down the majestic Antolini marble slab, which features veins that reflect the wildness of nature. The balanced composition lends grandeur to the backdrop without being outlandish – making for an atmospheric corner to host guests over dinner and wine. Matt brass Rubn Long John spotlight brightens the customised granite table top tastefully.

Soft and curved elements like the sofa and coffee table from Wendelbo, and AYTM Curva stool in gold juxtapose the linear lines in the apartment. Favoured by the owner, a Lion Portrait art from YellowKorner dramatises the walkway leading to the hall.

Throughout the apartment, multiple shades of black were created through a play on lighting to present a different visual experience from every viewpoint. A customised feature wall with niches placed at irregular heights add a playful randomness while displaying small art pieces.

The original layout was kept intact but the majority of the original built-in furniture and fixtures were removed to maximise space. Since the couple travels frequently, plenty of hidden storage have been created, including a chest of drawers for them to stow away bulky luggage, accessories and clothes.

In the master bedroom, a full-height headboard doubles as a wall that conceals storage space. The original wardrobe was stripped away to make way for a dresser. Here, the Wendelbo Tip Top Toe chair adds subtle curves to the linear space.
