Some attribute it to the popular American TV show Mad Men and the undeniable nostalgia it brought us. While others indicate the role of home decor magazines and websites in propagating this style from the yesteryears. Either way, one cannot ignore the surge in popularity for all things mid-century modern.
Homegrown furniture design company Commune too has its share of fascinating mid-century modern treasures. This month, they released brand new designs that blend dark wood toned furniture with neutral palettes of greys and whites. Here’s a look at our favourites:
#1 Dip Coffee Tables
Its unique design with stiletto legs and slim tabletop allow for nesting one under the other. With organic curves and rounded edges, these tables are crafted using sustainably sourced wood.
#2 Halle Bed
With fabric upholstered headboard, stainless steel legs and side panels to soften its look, this contemporary bed works best in small spaces. It’s available in light and dark grey.
#3 Celine 1-seater sofa
This curvy armed, mid-century modern lounge chair is upholstered in fabric with leather backing for extra comfort. Its delicate, sculpted frame with a gentle recline is specially designed for small spaces. It’s available with a firm and detachable neck cushion.
#4 Wilbur 3-seater Sofa
Designed to be a mix of mid-century and refined retro styles, this classic solid walnut framed 3-seater is upholstered in soft linen fabric.
#5 Estelle Tables
The Estelle tables comprise a coffee table, an end table and a console table that can be paired together or separately. Made of solid American walnut, their usual triangular shapes are meant to be conversation starters.
#6 Dualtone Sofa
This 3-seater sofa is a simple and artful homage to modern Scandinavian design. Clean exposed lines of oak and walnut wood are used to design an elegant, understated seater. It’s available in 3-seater and 1-seater options with grey or forest green upholstery.
