What can you do with a petite 3-room HDB flat that measures at less than 800sqft? Naturally, you’ll probably think that your options are limited. After all, you can’t possibly make a small home any bigger than it actually is. The design team from Spacious Planners however, had a few tricks up their sleeves.
Spacious Planners pulled out every trick in the book to visually and physically open up the interiors in this compact home. It started with a reconfigured floor plan that led to an open-concept kitchen, an enlarged living room and a double-volume bedroom. Hacking away walls and repositioning the doors helped to create a more efficient flow and layout, and this, incredibly, led to a more spacious floorplan.
The materials and textures also play an important role in giving this HDB flat a visual boost in size. A white brick wall stretches across the kitchen, bringing visual interest without adding bulk; an oversized mirror hangs on the wall of the dining room to encourage the illusion of space; and even the kitchen cabinets are made from stainless steel for a clean and streamlined profile.
Another major change took place in the bedrooms. Previously, there were two bedrooms with a storeroom sandwiched between them. The designers combined all three rooms into one, making space for a generous master bedroom and a walk-in wardrobe.
