The homeowners are a married couple in their 40s who work in creative industries, and who prioritise family time with their kids. Ryan Linardy, Lead Designer at Intheory Design says: “They desired a spacious and uncluttered home that was both stylish and kid-friendly – a serene retreat where they could unwind, read, enjoy quiet moments, and bond.”

Guided by the brief, Ryan has designed a minimalist home where form, function, and warmth converge. Japandi influences emerge in the form of subtle vertical grooves, raw wood details, and textured surfaces that celebrate natural materials and craftsmanship. Soft beige natural stone surfaces are harmoniously paired with shades of white and black accents, evoking a soothing, inviting atmosphere.

The multifunctional counter and coffee pantry are key features. “This area serves as the home’s social hub and workspace,” says Ryan. The countertop provides ample room for meal prep and casual dining, while the pantry features the perfect balance of open shelving and concealed storage.

The kitchen is separated by a glass window that maintains visual connection. In this project, the challenge was balancing a tight budget while preserving both functionality and aesthetic integrity. “We prioritised features with the most impact. Also, natural finishes were allowed to shine without excessive embellishment,” says Ryan.

Terracotta coloured tiles, stone surfaces and ambient lighting imbue the bathroom with a warm and earthy feel. Intimate, cosy and relaxing, it perfectly captures the sentiment and vision that the homeowners have for their home.

A good lighting strategy is essential for good sleep. Here, the designer’s thoughtful selection
of lighting elements, such as sculptural wall and side lights, illuminate the bedroom with a diffused glow. The play of light and shadow against the dark wood panels and textured headboard shapes the atmosphere into a tranquil retreat that encourages deep rest and relaxation.
