At Reflections at Keppel Bay, a married couple with a young child envisioned a home that would blend the sophistication of an art gallery with the warm, refined ambience of Park Hyatt Bangkok. Designed by Song Sze Ming of Studio Kabi, the 1,000-square-foot residence strikes that balance beautifully, transforming a family home into an inviting haven for both everyday living and stylish entertaining.

Central to this vision was their passion for art. With a keen eye for aesthetics and a sentimental streak, the homeowners wanted their collection — many pieces acquired through the husband’s work at an auction house — to be thoughtfully showcased, while ensuring the interiors could also transition into a lounge-like setting for evenings of hosting.

Travel memories and meaningful objects played a key role too. Rather than a purely minimalist blank slate, the couple wanted their home to hold onto tangible reminders of their journeys and personal stories, carefully woven into the design rather than cluttering it.

Instead of reworking the condo’s fundamental layout, Sze Ming capitalised on the generous proportions of the social spaces to enhance the sense of openness and flow. “The structures of all the rooms were kept; we focused on the big living room and dining space to make the communal area feel open and spacious,” explains the designer.

The living and dining areas were carefully differentiated but unified through materiality. The open kitchen was designed with a large island wrapped in stainless steel, combining robust function with an understated elegance that shines when hosting guests. In a subtle shift from the conventional, the sofa faces the kitchen island rather than the television—a layout choice that reinforces the social aspect of the home, where conversations and shared meals take precedence over screen time.

One of the most striking aspects of this apartment is the intentional contrast between the living and dining zones. The living room channels the rich, layered luxury of Park Hyatt Bangkok, wrapped in a carefully sourced maple wood TV wall that extends all the way into the kitchen. Wall lights mounted onto this feature wall anchor the space, infusing the area with soft, atmospheric glow.

The dining nook, by contrast, takes on a more gallery-like sensibility. “It is meant to encapsulate the ‘art gallery’ vibe more, while the living room gives that signature ‘Park Hyatt’ vibe, which is why the walls are kept bright,” says Sze Ming.

Clean white walls serve as a neutral backdrop for the couple’s art pieces and collectibles. To maintain cohesion, however, wood elements are reintroduced via the built-in dining settee, creating a subtle bridge between the warmth of the living room and the crispness of the dining area. This nuanced approach ensures that while each zone has its own character, the apartment feels harmonious and thoughtfully layered.

The kitchen was designed to be highly functional without compromising on style. The stainless steel-wrapped island doubles as a stage for the husband’s culinary pursuits, while the wood laminate surfaces tie the space back to the living area. Practical yet refined, the kitchen reflects the couple’s penchant for entertaining, ensuring that guests can gather comfortably around the island while food is being prepared.

Within the private confines, the master bedroom is kept deliberately pared down. Minimal furnishings and clean lines create an atmosphere of calm, with carefully chosen curtains setting a cocoon-like ambience. The homeowners wanted a restful sanctuary where they could unwind away from the buzz of the communal areas, and the design delivers exactly that.

The master bathroom continues the hotel-inspired narrative with lighting that enhances the sense of luxury. Darker wood tones are paired with a stone countertop that adds both colour and sophistication without overwhelming the space. The bathroom channels the atmosphere of a luxury suite, a nod to the couple’s original inspiration.

By grounding the design in the couple’s brief—part Park Hyatt luxury, part art gallery—Studio Kabi has created a home that adapts to different moods and functions. It’s a space that feels both personal and expansive, with layers of detail that reveal themselves slowly.
