In line with the family’s vision for the home, Wynn Neo of I.D.I.D has designed a comfortable maisonette home with raw industrial elements. The TV feature wall, finished with woodgrain laminate, makes a striking focal point in this capacious living room. A similar design is mirrored on the flooring, subtly defining the living room from the entrance foyer.

A large dining space is certainly needed for this intergenerational home so that all members can gather and have meals together. The full-height feature wall in this space is actually a row of hidden storage cabinets used for keeping household items and appliances out of sight. Designed to look like timber strips, the front of the cabinet also comes with built-in display nooks and dedicated spotlights.

Bright and spacious, the kitchen has a U-shaped layout that provides ample countertop space for various activities to take place. Members of the household will not be in each other’s way even when they use the kitchen at the same time. The bottom cabinets are finished with cement-look laminates for an industrial touch, while the side that faces the living room is decorated with engineered wood planks.

With two storeys to play with, this maisonette boasts a 4.5-metre high ceiling over the living room. Wynn decided to play up this unique feature by giving the ceiling a special design treatment. Chengal wood strips are now suspended from the ceiling, bringing visual interest while drawing the eye up. The design of this ceiling feature also complements the overall industrial look.

Since the master bedroom is quite large, the homeowners decided to have a walk-in wardrobe incorporated into the layout. Wynn designed the space using the pole system so that it can be easily customised and adjusted according to their needs. Situated away from the bed, this separation allows for either partner to get properly dressed without disturbing the other.

All the bathrooms in the home underwent a dramatic transformation to complete the industrial-chic look. Instead of laminates, wood-effect tiles are used as they are not susceptible to water damage and are much more durable. Peranakan tiles are added to the mix for a fun dash of colour and pattern. What used to be simply a utilitarian space is now one of the most stylish rooms in this comfortable maisonette.
