A bright and dreamy condo makeover at Farrer Road

Buying resale often means inheriting dated interiors, and this decades-old condo at Farrer Road was no exception. The home felt musty, enclosed and gloomy, with fittings that had seen better days. In just three months, and with a $135,000 budget, Comfort Home Interior turned it from dark to dreamy, creating an airy retreat that feels both spacious and soothing.

The homeowners wanted a home that felt open and perfect for entertaining, while still giving their dog room to roam. “The brief was to make the space feel larger and lighter,” shares lead designer Vinson Koh from Comfort Home Interior. “We knocked down walls, reconfigured the layout and used materials that brought natural light into previously dark corners.”

At the heart of the redesign is the dining area, envisioned as the highlight of the home. Here, a curved glass block wall diffuses natural light, while recessed shelving and a circular ceiling detail highlight the home’s gentle curves. The zone extends seamlessly into the dry kitchen, where a rounded-edge kitchen counter topped with a durable Neptune surface from Melmer creates a smooth transition between dining and food preparation.

Anchoring the rear of the dry kitchen, the Foresta Jade sintered stone backsplash from Aurastone creates a bold accent against the Albany Walnut laminates from Admira. Its rich veining adds depth and personality, turning the wall feature into a natural conversation starter whenever guests gather.

Next to the dining area, the walkway to the kitchen is lined with Albany Walnut laminate wall cladding that conceal the bedroom doors. This discreet touch not only maintains a seamless look but also defines the zones clearly, separating social spaces from private quarters with a sense of privacy.

Flowing naturally from the host-ready dining hub, the living area carries forward the sense of openness and warmth with a similar laminate wall cladding that forms a cohesive backdrop. Full-height farmhouse-style carpentry with storage combines function and display, lifted by Panaplast’s Gold Brush accents and the walls painted in Nippon’s Quiet Lullaby.

Framed by flexible sliding doors, the kitchen has an efficient, streamlined layout featuring walnut-coloured laminate finishes paired with Salt Cloudy Cement laminates from Lamitak for a modern touch. An ivory-toned tiled backsplash keeps the palette light, complemented by hardy floor tiles underfoot.

While the social areas are designed for entertaining, the private zones remain calm and restorative. In the master bedroom, wardrobes refreshed in an ivory coat of paint and walls in a soft sandy shade set a tranquil mood for rest and relaxation.

In the master bathroom, a travertine-inspired countertop from Caesarstone meets birch-toned laminates from Lamitak, creating a vanity that blends daily practicality with sophistication. Textural wall tiles from Hafary and RICE enhance the look.

In the wet zone, a curved screen divider shapes the shower stall and softens the room’s geometry. “The idea was to echo the curved forms seen throughout the home and tie the bathroom back to the overall design,” shares Vinson.

What was once a dark and dated condo has now been reborn as a space that feels uplifting and inviting. With the design studio’s thoughtful detailing and bold design moves, the home is now brighter, airier, and designed for living well.
