Softly sculpted and full of warmth, this family home at Plantation Crescent finds beauty in everyday living. For the young couple who live here with their newborn, the design had to feel calm and welcoming. The husband works from home regularly, while the wife, a piano teacher, wanted her grand piano to feel like a natural part of their daily rhythm rather than an afterthought.

To bring their dream family home to life, designer Ray Seah from OVON was tasked with overseeing the renovation. “The homeowners are warm, family-oriented people who wanted a nurturing home to raise their newborn in,” Ray shares. He designed a modern Scandinavian home in warm beige tones and soft textures, with a custom piano nook that anchors the living area. “We wanted the piano to blend harmoniously with the living room so it wouldn’t feel out of place,” says Ray. “The cabinetry around it was customised together with the dry pantry to create extra storage for the homeowner’s music notes.”

Vinyl flooring was overlaid across the original HDB tiles in the communal zones to soften the look and feel underfoot. The kitchen door in fluted glass serves as both divider and connector, allowing natural light to stream through while subtly shielding the laundry yard from view. Daylight flows into the dining area, where understated furniture pieces complement the home’s gentle palette, and the curved false ceiling unifies the open-plan layout.

A custom-built shoe cabinet in the foyer neatly conceals the DB box, maintaining a calm, minimalist entry. Completing the move, a curved divider with a circular opening screens the threshold without blocking views—so the foyer feels private, not closed off.

The private spaces mirror this same balance of function and finesse. In the master bedroom, Ray designed a boutique-inspired wardrobe suite with an illuminated bag display that turns everyday storage into a statement feature, and an integrated dresser with curves that evokes the intimacy of a private dressing room.

The bed area is equally serene, backed by a fluted headboard with subtle cove lighting that adds a graceful expression of Scandinavian warmth. Every element, from the custom wardrobe to the floating nightstand, contributes to a calm and composed retreat.

A cosy nook in the study frames the daybed and serves as a reading corner, work area, and guest bed, while curved edges and layered lighting evoke a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. “Every detail in the home, from lighting placement to cabinet edges, was designed with family life in mind,” Ray notes.

The bathrooms maintain a similar visual language of Scandinavian serenity, with KompacPlus countertops to match the original bathroom tiles for a sleek, cohesive look.

Completed in three months for $97,500, this modern Scandinavian BTO by OVON is the perfect blend of warmth and thoughtful detailing – built for family life, not fuss.
