Inspiration for a home can come from anywhere. For the owners of this apartment, it began with noticing d’Phenomenal’s design for an office. “The homeowner liked one of our office designs, so we created a similar feel here but with a different concept,” says art director Chia Xue Ling.
The kitchen, the starting point in this two-bedroom unit, has been made spacious by merging the adjacent study with the kitchen space. Space wise, this was instrumental in fulfilling the wife’s wish for a large kitchen. Fitted with key appliances and ample storage, it is a comfortable space for the avid home cook to prepare meals for the family of three or whip up feasts for guests.
Xue Ling has put together a monochrome palette that complements the visual texture from the original flooring to achieve a modern luxe aesthetic.
The dining area adjacent to the kitchen makes the best use of the space with a slim table for four while accommodating more storage space. Here, to segregate the living and kitchen area, a feature wall that stretches upwards is designed to mimic a water feature by harnessing lighting and textured laminates.
Vertical lines also appear throughout the home via design features, furniture and patterns to create a sense of continuity. More than that, Xue Ling has incorporated furnishings in a practical way to work with the space constraints. To accommodate a study area, for instance, a drop leaf table in the master bedroom can be put away when it’s not in use.
Laminated features with embedded lighting are designed to add interest to the ceilings in both rooms and define specific areas. Every element in this monochrome home is measured with care to seamlessly blend with other design features throughout.
