Sinuous curves come to life in this resale condo with its design hinging on feng shui tenets and the homeowners’ personal preferences. Elaborating on the design brief, designer David Chong from Happe Design Atelier says: “We needed to blend in feng shui principles, while ensuring that the interior would resonate with the homeowners’ distinctive aesthetic preference and their required functions.”

To start with, David has designed a pristine interior of restful colours and nature-inspired materials that offer textural richness and warmth. He says: “I managed to capture a captivating fusion of muted, greyish tones and natural elements. The resulting living space is harmonious and serene whilst drawing inspiration from feng shui principles, where aesthetics and well-being coalesce seamlessly.”

It was also the homeowners’ wish to live in a family-friendly space, since they had recently welcomed a baby. As such, the living and dining area have been kept open to establish a spacious and child-friendly setting. The convivial atmosphere is enhanced by a sumptuous, wood-finished storage unit with refined curves that spans across the entire wall the living area. There’s even the thoughtful addition of sliding fluted panels to conceal the television, should the new parents want to create a TV-free zone for their child.

Not forgetting the minor areas, David introduced a stunning entry point into the home with a curved wall in the foyer. He explains: “This sinuous divider serves a practical purpose of guiding the flow of movement from the entrance into the heart of the home.” Adding a bespoke bench which hovers gracefully along the wall, the sculptural seat makes a striking visual statement optimised for both the human gaze and comfort.

Curves imbue another area of transit: the archway leading from the communal zones into the bedrooms. These softer lines create a unified appearance that ties the communal spaces together and highlights the beauty of the curve.

While curves were not adopted in the kitchen design, the relaxed colour palette of grey tones and wood-look floor tiles presents it as a peaceful escape rather than a hectic cookspace. Yet it possesses all the traits of a hardworking kitchen, thanks to a meticulously planned cabinet layout. “This is to cater to the specific needs and lifestyle of the homeowners, ensuring practicality and functionality in every detail,” explains David.

With feng shui still on the agenda, the restful palette continues within the private areas. A minimalist colour palette fills the master bedroom with good feng shui vibes – one that feels nurturing, supportive and utterly relaxing. There’s a hint of elegance with the bouclé bedframe, and the full-height sliding wardrobe keeps clutter out of sight, in line with the home’s pristine aura.

Against the restrained palette, David created various talking point areas with patterns and accent colours. One example is the dressing area, and he says: “I wanted to draw attention with a striking feature wall.” In geometric motifs, the tiles were carefully selected and arranged to amplify the visual impact. Complementing this playful focal point is cabinetry in sleek black which provides basic storage and a designated area for luggage, much like a boutique hotel.

The common bathroom’s colourful display of a terracotta-hued sink counter and fish scale wall tiles is also hard to miss. “The aim was to transform the bathroom into an inviting and lively environment for the whole family to enjoy,” says David. “These colourful elements with imaginative textures are perfect for engaging the children in their daily cleaning routines.”

The master bathroom, however, is toned down with a backdrop of tiles and cabinetry in muted hues. This pared-back colour scheme reveals how effective muted colours are in achieving tranquillity. And this applies to the entire home, as the positive energy flow of feng shui intertwined with soothing designs and a serene aura is definitely gentle on the eye and soul.
