Brimming with charm and character, this five-room BTO flat in Northshore is home to a semi-retired couple and their adult son. Well-travelled and drawn to timeless design, the homeowners have collaborated closely with Joann the design team from OVON to craft a space that feels deeply personal. “The lady homeowner was very involved in the renovation and picked out pieces she genuinely loved. Their fondness for colonial style gave the home its unique personality,” says Joann.
That personality comes through clearly in the communal areas, where rich wood tones are paired with soft neutrals. “The homeowners gravitate toward antique-style furniture, so we chose dark brown laminates to match,” Joann explains. Wall trimmings and vintage-style lighting add warmth and depth, tying the space together with timeless appeal.
At the heart of the home is a dedicated coffee nook, complete with a curated display of the wife’s cherished cup collection and an island countertop to enjoy slow brews. “It’s not just about design – it’s about honouring their laid-back lifestyle,” adds the designer.
The homeowners’ favourite floral-textured glass has been used in the French doors that lead to the corridor, which mark the transition between the communal areas and private bedrooms. The glass panels allow natural light to filter through while adding a decorative touch.
“The floral glass texture softens the divide while still offering privacy,” says Joann. This thoughtful demarcation creates distinct zones for entertaining and unwinding, keeping the living area open and the bedrooms restful and undisturbed.
Materials in the kitchen have been chosen with aesthetics and function in mind. Vulcan countertops from Lian Hin pair seamlessly with cabinets in Lamitak laminates, while colonial-style floor tiles elevate the space with subtle flair.
From sheer lace curtains to the cushioned bay window seat, every detail in the master bedroom has been thoughtfully chosen to echo the home’s antique-inspired style. “Every piece, whether new or old, feels like it belongs,” says Joann.
This sense of continuity carries through to the classic bedposts and delicate wall trimmings, which further reinforce the colonial theme. With its restful simplicity and enduring elegance, the room perfectly reflects the homeowners’ love for heritage and comfort.
Lined with botanical-patterned wall tiles, the shower stall evokes the look of printed illustrations. The soft fauna and floral prints are beautifully complemented by brushed brass fittings and a gentle wash of warm lighting.
The renovation, completed in just three months, was one of the smoothest the designers had experienced. “Every step, from design discussions to choosing cabinet handles, felt seamless and genuinely enjoyable thanks to the homeowners’ trust,” says Joann.
