Set on a high floor with open views over Telok Blangah Heights, this 1,184-square-foot resale HDB flat is a testament to what happens when attention to detail meets inspired design thinking. For a couple who approached every element of their renovation with care and precision, this home captures their personality – balanced, welcoming, and unmistakably their own.

“Our design approach for this project focused on precision, customisation, and clarity,” say designers Joey Tan and Christine Thet from Loft.Nine Design Studio. “Every element – from spatial flow to material finishes – was thoughtfully refined through close collaboration and open communication with the owners.”

Guided by a clear brief, the design team envisioned a space that would bring the lush greenery from the outside in. With forest views beyond the windows, natural light and connection to the outdoors became the foundation for the home’s design.

To achieve the sense of openness, walls between the living, dining, and kitchen were reconfigured or removed entirely, opening up the flow and allowing daylight to filter into the interiors. The result is a bright, airy layout that feels both expansive and cohesive.

Wood tones and brown accents define the overall colour palette, complemented by shades of white and touches of green. This natural base establishes a sense of calm while creating the perfect backdrop for the couple’s more playful and eclectic sensibilities. A modern-farmhouse-meets-boho aesthetic guides the visual language, giving the home a relaxed, lived-in charm.

Custom-built furniture forms the backbone of the design. Storage was cleverly integrated throughout, allowing the open-concept layout to remain clutter-free without compromising functionality. Hidden compartments, mirrored surfaces, and concealed nooks ensure the home is easy to maintain – a practical touch that supports the couple’s everyday routine.

The living and dining areas flow seamlessly into one another, unified by warm wooden flooring and natural light. A mirrored backing on the display cabinet adds a touch of depth and sophistication while providing a reflective counterpoint to the wooden tones. The living room’s focal point – a café-inspired island counter visible from the entrance – sets the mood immediately: welcoming, stylish, and open.
Playful touches break the serenity just enough to add character. Pops of colour and texture through soft furnishings and art create visual interest while maintaining the warm tone the homeowners desired.

In the kitchen, practicality meets design finesse. Glass blocks line the wall between the kitchen and the common bathroom, allowing natural light to pass through while maintaining privacy. This detail not only illuminates the cookspace but also enhances the sense of continuity throughout the home.

Cabinetry finished in a deep blue tone for colour provides generous storage, and the careful planning of zones ensures that workflow remains efficient. The result is a kitchen that feels both contemporary and timeless – one that blends seamlessly with the home’s modern farmhouse charm.

In the master suite, functionality and elegance merge. What were once two separate rooms have been connected into one suite that houses a study corner, a display for the husband’s figurine collection, and an expanded wardrobe. An arch-framed fluted glass door marks the transition between spaces, softening the geometry of the interior while maintaining an elegant silhouette.

Each bathroom carries its own distinct identity, tailored to its user. “The master bathroom is designed for ‘her’, while the secondary bathroom is suited for ‘him’,” divulge the designers. “A blend of pink-toned tiles and terrazzo textures for a soft, feminine touch dominates the main bathroom, while the other bathroom leans towards blue-toned tiles with a soft gloss and brushed bronze bathroom fittings.”

Throughout the home, Loft.Nine Design Studio incorporated elements that elevate both practicality and atmosphere. Fans and lighting from Vlux, furniture from Blessed Brothers, and custom dining pieces enrich the space with tactile quality.
The result is more than a modern farmhouse interior; it’s a home shaped by precision and warmth — every joint, tone and detail reflecting the couple’s thoughtful way of living.
