In many ways, a home reflects its people, revealing personal values, beliefs and philosophies. Creative elements showcase inventiveness while gracious touches signify care and thought. “The owners are the type of people who always make anyone feel welcome. When it comes to designing, they are very detailed and tasteful, and strive to achieve their dream home,” comments designer Jayden Chiang of Fineline Design who was engaged to do the remodel.

The condominium apartment comes with four bedrooms, which is perfect for the couple, their two children, the children’s grandmother and their helper. To cater to the three-generation family, Jayden designed it as a friendly environment for kids and the elderly while striving to maintain a luxurious feel.

For this purpose, he focused on hardwearing materials like laminates and tiles. He also proposed a welcoming palette of browns, introducing them in a variety of patterns to add depth, dimension and visual variety to the space. For instance, the television feature wall features patterns that contrast yet work with the customised console. The concrete-looking floor tiles imbue texture and complement the colours in the living area.

Going with a similar palette for the kitchen, the designer introduced bleached walnut laminate for the cabinets. The shades of brown in the wood-look floor tiles, too, add to the charm of the space, where natural light softens and illuminates the space.

Over in the master bedroom, a standout feature wall at the bedhead is amped up with hidden lighting that gives a three-dimensional effect. Customisation also makes it possible to accommodate a pair of compact side tables. In the bathroom, the addition of limestone-like homogenous tiles, a long stretch of mirrors and well-appointed lighting elevate the ambience.

A host of storage solutions caters to the family’s household needs. Be it the full-wall storage units in the foyer or the customised bookcase and desk in the bedroom, storage has been maximised. Likewise, the bathroom houses storage solutions where toiletries can be neatly organised.

For Jayden, creating this home in which the family adores was a fulfilling project in many ways. He says, “ The owners are flexible in making alternative decisions when facing difficulties on site in terms of some restrictions, such as building structures. They are very friendly and polite, which makes one loves working with them.”
