Project type: 3-room HDB flat
Floor area: 893sqft

Incorporating vibrant colours starting from the main door in bold viridian green, designer Mandy Low from Insight.Out Studio put together a treasure trove of the homeowners’ memorabilia, books and vinyl as a key feature in the living area. Housed within the modular String storage system, these colourful objects fit right in with the home’s post-modern maximalist theme.

Choosing the Kartell Invisible table for its see-through lightness and elegance, Mandy paired it with Vitra Panton chairs in pale pink to form a dreamy dining space. She says: “The chairs reflect on the experimental postmodern design element we were going for, with its ergonomically shaped seats that meet the needs of modern-day life.”

A pastel blue colour scheme injects excitement into the kitchen and can be seen on the cabinetry and glass backsplash. To match the La Germania freestanding cooker, Mandy added BEGRIPA handles from the IKEA kids selection on the cabinets. These semi-circle handles in orange provide a playful aesthetic and a firm grip for daily use.

With the common bathroom converted into a powder room, the homeowners wanted it to extend a cheery and bright welcome for guests. Thus, the walls have been painted in bright yellow as with the door, and are complemented by terracotta-inspired floor tiles that inject a tropical flavour. Double sinks set on a terrazzo slab countertop add to the inviting setting.

Offset by clean white walls and cement screed flooring, a punch of red clads the master bedroom as an accent wall without jarring the senses. The vibrant colour makes a good backdrop to draw out a quirky detail – Mandy decided to paint an outline in green to depict a headboard, instead of using an actual one.
