Upon entering the apartment, the inhabitants are enveloped by lush wood surfaces that offer a comforting touch. Floor to ceiling strips clad the entrance walls while concealing the shoe cabinet. A grey shelf cuts across, breaking up the monotony of the pattern while functioning as an area for display pieces or keys. While the apartment’s palette has a deep and dark tone, the space feels homely.
“The original space had a lot of awkward corners as the previous television area was too near to the dining space, which made the space not very functional,” say the designers who created a feature panel that functions as a projector wall for the tech-savvy family. A round dining table adds soft curves and provides more seating while taking up less space.
The dark carpentry and walls seen throughout the apartment portray a sophisticated style while maintaining a homely atmosphere with the original light-coloured flooring. “The client liked the dark wood vibes but didn’t want it to seem too overpowering, so we retained the flooring,” explain the designers. Maximising space quality, lots of storage areas have been provided to keep the home neat and tidy.
Instead of attempting to hide the awkward wall in the bedroom, the designers chose to highlight it in a deep pink shade – balanced by dark grey carpentry and classic herringbone floors – to add a touch of quirkiness and personality to the home. “We look to bring out new and surprising things for our clients as we believe that design should instil a sense of adventure,” say the designers of their process.
With a little imagination and some customisation, a seemingly unusable corner can shine in its own right. Here, an awkward space was transformed into a functional display with odd angled shelves, adding a touch of uniqueness to the apartment. The pink backdrop accents the room with soft femininity, balancing the dark tones seen throughout the apartment.
