Finding tranquility in the city can be tough. But for an Indonesian couple with two kids, their penthouse is an oasis of calm and the very definition of modern luxury.
“The owners found their previous apartment to be too woody and wanted an absolute change with their new home. ‘Modern luxury’, ‘industrial’ and ‘smart storage’ were also all included in their brief,” shares Stephen Goh of Metaphor Studio.
With that in mind, an elegant and well-balanced palette of white, granite and steel has been chosen for this penthouse. The television wall is lined in laminated steel paneling. It also cleverly hides a large storage space to house the family’s entire library of CD/DVDs, and extends to the upper floor to store other essentials.
Next to the living area, a polished black granite platform serves as a family member’s daily meditation area. At the same time, sounds from a water feature located under the staircase soothes the senses and aids in the ritual. It is also as Stephen perfectly describes, “the hearth of the home.”
Throughout the apartment, artworks lend added character and sophistication to the space. Further in, the same laminated steel paneling is used to camouflage storage areas and the doors leading to the bathrooms and bedroom. An existing wall has also been removed to create an open-concept kitchen that enhances the sense of space and openness in this apartment.
Upstairs, the master bedroom is a luxurious private sanctuary that carries a similar material and colour palette to the communal areas below. A wall to ceiling mirrored feature subtly demarcates the sleeping area. This is further accentuated by a large sculpture in keeping with the artful elegance that pervades this penthouse apartment.
