In this home, the largely monochromatic colour scheme of whites, creams and black presents a uniformed style and spatial fluidity. Creative Director Candy Ng and Project Manager Sulomon from The Interior Place worked to create a modern, relaxing abode brimming with sophistication for a family of four. They also designed two kitchens to conveniently suit different cooking needs: one that’s integrated with the communal zones, separated only by glass panels; and another in the backyard for outdoor entertaining.
For the living area, Candy and Sulomon designed an impressive feature wall. “We utilised laminates, tinted mirror panels and two beautiful travertine slabs,” says Candy. It complements the metallic accents and plush soft furnishings elsewhere in the space, resulting in a balanced contemporary mood. Facing it, a cantilevered staircase with slim metal trellis railings elevates the modern aesthetic of space. Fronting the stairs and facing the main door is a geometric design feature that also acts as a privacy screen. “There are hidden storage compartments within the design for keys!” adds Sulomon.
The biggest challenge arose in the master bedroom, where the designer duo refined the material palette several times. “We wanted to create a luxurious, yet comfortable and cosy feel for this room,” says Candy. “Therefore, we had to go through a lot of material combinations, such as laminates and marble, and wood finishes and tinted mirrors, to achieve the perfect feel.”
Food brings the family together and the backyard makes the ideal setting for entertaining the extended family. An island counter clad in premium quartz from Caesarstone works as the outdoor kitchen and a dining spot for family members and guests to mingle. Sporting a contemporary shade of grey, the homogeneous floor tiles usher in a spacious appeal, while the Chengai timber decking imbues a touch of warmth.
To cater to the homeowners’ love for hosting and family, the backyard was converted into a show kitchen while the roof terrace was transformed into an entertainment room.
