Not keen on an all-white space, the young couple living here knew that a modern resort theme would be perfect for their shared home. Designer Shirley Ng from Design Zage achieved this look using two main colours, which she incorporated carefully to ensure the home would feel spacious and cohesive.

Dark grey and brown wood-look laminates juxtapose against soft grey wallpaper in this four-room flat. Shirley enhanced the sense of space with a mirrored wall, bringing more light into the dining area too. Grey dining chairs and a stunning wooden dining table complement the chevron-patterned vinyl flooring.

In the living area, the television console and feature wall sport the same laminates that give the home a comforting consistency and a richly textured, modern resort feel. The designer also explored different false ceiling heights throughout the home to accommodate the lighting and fan.

Covered up with carpentry or wallpaper, the walls in the common spaces are barely seen. It’s not just about aesthetics though. The design intent serves a practical purpose. For instance, storage solutions in the form of seamless cabinets and open shelves keep clutter out of sight while offering opportunities to display decorative items that add interest to the home.

A key work done was the levelling and integration of the service yard into the kitchen. The kitchen is now highly functional, with every square inch maximised for storage. There is ample countertop space for often-used items, and the upper cabinets in light wood finish keeps the space feeling bright and cheery.

With its resort feel, the master bathroom is an inspiring and relaxing space. The combination of greys and wood-look finishes are well balanced, whereby the visual textures work in tandem with the distinctive basin to create an elegant vanity area.

Much of what is in the master bedroom has been customised. Doing so ensures that space is utilised optimally. For example, an L-shaped wardrobe merges with the bedside table, while the long television console further addresses the couple’s storage needs. The clients had expressed their preference for having a customised cushion headboard, and the designer has delivered one that’s consistent with the overall design of the home.
