A combination of classic elegance and modern versatility, the Billo Sofa System from contemporary Australian design brand NAU is a remarkable solution for modern day living.
The Billo Sofa System takes its cues from vintage Italian sofas, evoking a delightful sense of nostalgia. Its billowy, voluptuous forms (which inspired its name) is designed to make you feel like you’re being cocooned softly in a cloud, and the flexible top back frame is an innovative feature that delivers extra comfort. The shape is distinctive, relaxed and inviting, ensuring that it stands out in any room without dominating the space.
Designed by Sydney-based industrial designer Adam Goodrum, what makes Billo even more outstanding is its tremendous versatility. Each piece can function independently or be configured in various ways to suit different spaces and living situations.
Adam explains: “One of the key features of the Billo Sofa System is its user-friendly design, which makes it easy to handle and reconfigure. This makes it suitable for both residential and commercial environments, providing a friendly aesthetic that softens and enhances any space.”
The designer shares that the design process was extensive, involving sketching, CAD development, and numerous prototype iterations to refine the look, tailoring, and comfort. “We started with the armchair, the most complex piece, and used its design elements to inform the other modules, ensuring a cohesive and versatile collection,” he says.
The Billo Sofa System uses responsibly sourced materials, and is designed to be durable so it can be enjoyed for years to come. The designer himself is particularly proud of this project, which he says has been the most complex that he has undertaken at NAU to date. He shares: “The Billo sofa visually enhances a space, offers user-friendly functionality, and provides great comfort. I hope people will feel the same way and enjoy having it in their homes as much as I do. Personally, I want one for my own home!”
