Everyone goes to Ikea at some point in their lives, whether it’s to gain inspiration from the cosy and stylish Scandinavian-style settings, buy furniture for their first home, or simply enjoy Swedish comfort food from the restaurant. Now, Ikea fans will be ecstatic to know that the brand has just released the new annual “bible”!

The Ikea 2018 catalogue and new collection is out in Singapore, and the theme is “make room for life”. Expect bold and beautiful looks, as well as functional and stylish pieces that reflect the latest trends in design and lifestyle.

Based on the idea of making space for exactly what you want and need in your life, be it a long-lost passion, binge-watching your favourite TV show, entertaining or keeping an urban garden, you can get furniture, home decor and solutions that are affordable, yet trendy.

Here are some highlights of the new collection.

#1 Metod kitchen with Kungsbacka anthracite doors and drawer fronts, and Maximera soft-closing drawers, $3,190

This sexy black kitchen features cabinet fronts that are made from recycled wood and recycled PET bottles, showing that sustainability and style can co-exist together. The Odger dining chair ($95)  is also another earth-friendly piece that’s made with 70 per cent recycled plastic and 30 per cent renewable wood.

#2 Svalnas wall-mounted storage combination, $690

This open shelving display and storage system, made with powder-coated steel and bamboo, serves as a nice backdrop or focal point in any modern interior. Shown in this lounge area is the Soderhamn chaise longue ($655) and Rissna coffee table ($199).

#3 Ekebol three-seater sofa, $790

This cosy daybed looks great for open-concept spaces, especially, with its minimalist linear frame. It also provides storage space underneath that’s accessible from all sides – a nifty design!

#4 Vimle three-seater sofa with chaise longue, $1,055

Vimle is a sectional sofa (also pictured right on top, $830), available in a wide range of removable and washable covers, that’s versatile and perfect for families of all sizes. Simply replace or add sections to create the sofa you want. The footstool and chaise longue modules also offers concealed storage.

#5 Ypperlig collection, in collaboration with Hay

The design-savvy probably already know of world-renowned Danish furniture design company Hay. Together with Ikea, the designers have come up with the Ypperlig collection that focusses on the beauty of basics, by playing up materials, colours and production techniques in the design of the pieces. Slated to arrive in October, Ikea’s first designer collaboration includes a wide variety of products, such as sofas, tables, vases, shelving units, mirrors, carrier bags, and more. Pictured here are a table ($349), stools ($39.90 each), assorted cushion covers ($14.90 each) and a wall shelf ($29.90) – the blonde wood tones of the furniture pop against the warmth of a rich sunset red wall, for a simple, but striking vignette. We can’t wait for this one!
