An elegant commune with nature

description

With this being their second home, the owners of this two-bedroom apartment had a good sense of what they liked and didn’t like. They also had a clear idea of what they were keen to explore this time around and engaged the designers at arche° to help bring their vision to life.

‘Earthy’, ‘organic’, ‘curves’ and ‘wood accents’ were all part of the brief, and arche° sought out elegant means to achieve the desired look and atmosphere through a meticulous selection of materials and detailing, and with careful thought to the practicalities of day to day living for the homeowners and their two kids.

The designers share: “The appearance and colours of the materials the clients had an affinity for were either on the higher end or required higher maintenance. We therefore proposed alternative materials that were more practical, and that would still meet the clients’ needs. For example, using tiles to achieve a microcement look in the bathroom and opting for a Dekton countertop with a travertine finish instead of real travertine.”

Colours, textures and shapes take their cues from nature, and come together to form a harmonious and consistent design language. Every corner of the apartment carries a warm and soothing ambience, and captures the comforting essence that the homeowners had envisioned.

Spatially, the designers have converted the WC in the yard area into a storeroom, and shifted the access to be close to the main entrance. The previously enclosed kitchen has also been redesigned as an open-concept space, which opens up the compact apartment dramatically and makes it feel more spacious. Wood-look wall carpentry artfully conceals the storeroom and blends in perfectly with the design of the kitchen and dining space.

The design and renovation, which was done at a cost of $120,000, expresses the idea of nature at home with great finesse. Earthy, warm and comforting, it is an elegant home that’s still well-suited for the rigours of family life.
