The biennial International Kitchen Exhibition, EuroCucina, is where the design world heads to for the latest and best in kitchens. At the fair in April, two main concepts, namely efficiency and evocation, illustrated how the kitchen has evolved from purely functional spaces into personalised domestic ‘hubs’.
At the recent Häfele Post-EuroCucina talk in Singapore, industry experts shared insights on the key global trends that are leading the evolution in the kitchen space.
Dominik Fruth of Häfele
As an introduction, Häfele’s General Director for Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia, Dominik Fruth, offered an overview of key highlights. According to him, here are some of the things we can look forward to:
#1 Dark colours – not black but different shades of grey.
#2 Kitchens featuring aluminium and glass.
#3 Built-in dining, which blurs the functionality of the kitchen, making it more of a social space.
From Hawa Sliding Solutions
Vance Lew, Sales Manager APAC of Hawa Sliding Solutions AG, offered the following:
#1 The kitchen will be reconfigurable to different daily needs.
#2 We’ll be seeing more open shelving, as well as hidden spaces for storage behind sliding doors.
#3 Expect bolder designs and colours.
Norbert Claus, Area Sales Manager of GRASS GmbH, said we could expect to see:
#1 More and more luxury kitchens, and use of high quality materials.
#2 Handle-free, push-to-open drawers and doors.
#3 Trends can be followed or set. With the Nova Pro Scala by GRASS, users are offered virtually limitless design possibilities.
Mehul Raj, Managing Director of AluLines International Pte Ltd, said:
#1 As the kitchen evolves into a social space, backsplashes will play a new and important role.
#2 We’ll be seeing backsplashes serve as stylish storage.
#3 AluSplash offers backsplashes in a wide array of on-trend earthy and vibrant colours to create any style of kitchen one can think of.
Claudia Weidner, Sales Director APAC of Kesseböhmer GmbH said that the perfect open kitchen can be realised with solutions such as:
#1 Powerful and almost invisible downdraft induction hobs or retraceable extractors that can be hidden underneath the worktop when not in use.
#2 Lighting to create atmosphere.
#3 When it comes to the design, using sideboards or standalone furniture that complement the design of the kitchen.
#4 Other trends include colours like anthracite and natural shades, and matte and easy to maintain materials.
