With two young children, the homeowners envisioned a home that was calm, welcoming, and easy to care for. Design Director Chris Zhang of Plush Interior Design delivered a carefully curated interior where warm textures, ambient lighting, and refined details evoke a sense of quiet retreat.
“The flat came with several awkward structural beams and columns, especially in the living area that we had to address,” Chris shares. “The plan was to create a clean, calming visual flow, so we used partitions to wrap around those structures and integrate them as part of a minimalist backdrop.”
At the entrance, a custom-built bench with shoe storage creates a welcoming drop zone. To address privacy without compromising light flow, Chris added a slatted divider that subtly blocks prying eyes while letting daylight filter through.
Structural flaws have been masked with limewash finishes from Vasari applied to the walls, adding a soft, tactile depth. “The moody texture brings subtle character to the TV feature wall,” shares Chris, referring to the streamlined setup featuring a low platform and slim metal shelves.
The open-concept kitchen retains its original layout but is elevated with a well-considered layering of textures. Chris selected the marble-patterned sintered stone from Bellus for the countertops and backsplash to achieve a timeless aesthetic with subtle texture. A softly rounded peninsula counter anchors the space, paired with a tiled backsplash in gentle gradient tones for added visual interest.
In the private zones, the palette remains muted, grounded by vinyl flooring from Floor Xpert that continues throughout the bedrooms. With the original master bedroom configuration left unchanged, the homeowners had limited space for a spacious walk-in wardrobe. Still, Chris carved out a boutique-worthy dressing area, complete with built-in cabinetry and recessed handles for a seamless finish.
The master bathroom was also refreshed with an overlay of new dark-toned tiles. The master ensuite features a fluted glass door that diffuses light while maintaining privacy, and a stone basin for a calm, contemporary feel.
Completed in 12 weeks with a budget of $60,000, the renovation reflects Chris’s thoughtful approach – combining soothing textures, minimal details, and natural tones. The result is a warm, cohesive home that captures a sense of modern tranquillity, ideal for relaxed living.
