The Lookbox Design Awards (LBDA) is here to celebrate the best and brightest talents that are pushing the boundaries in the field of home interior design in Singapore, and raising the bar for the industry as a whole.

Having diverse and learned perspectives are important to any awards programme. This is why LBDA’s esteemed judges are all highly respected interior designers, architects, academics and editors from Singapore, the Asia Pacific and Europe.

Meet them.

Christina Thean

Christina Thean
Director, Park + Associates (Singapore)

Christina Thean graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Architectural Studies and joined award-winning Park + Associates after completing her studies in 2001. She went on to build a portfolio that spans across a wide spectrum of different typologies, from private dwellings to high-rise residential, commercial and mixed-use projects, cultural and civic institutions, as well as hotels and resorts.

A firm believer of P+A’s design philosophy that each project is an opportunity to transform space into a delightful experience, Christina undertakes her role as Design Director with the aspiration and commitment to deliver experiences that transcend visual stimulation.

Colin Seah

Colin Seah
Founder and Director of Design, Ministry of Design (Singapore)

Architecturally trained in the US and licensed in Singapore, Colin Seah honed his sensibilities working for the likes of Rem Koolhaas and Daniel Libeskind. He also spent four years at the National University of Singapore’s Department of Architecture researching design pedagogy and serving as design critic.

As MOD’s Founder and Director of Design, Colin has been named “Designer of the Year” by International Design Awards USA 2010. He is also a two-time recipient of Singapore’s highest design accolade, the President’s Design Award, as well as the two-time Grand Prize Winner of the Gold Key Award, the highest international hospitality accolade. He was awarded Hong Kong Perspective’s ‘40 under 40 architects’, and was named in Marcus Corporation Foundation Prize 2007 as the ‘emerging architect with potential for greatness’.

Kelley Cheng

Kelley Cheng
Founder and Creative Director, The Press Room (Singapore)

A veteran designer in Singapore, Kelley Cheng is an architectural graduate turned Jill-of-all-trade – magazine editor, writer, curator, spatial designer, graphic designer, entrepreneur – she has done it all. She runs her own publishing and design consultancy The Press Room, designing everything from books, brands, exhibitions, documentaries, and even stage and film set design. From F&B businesses to an art gallery, her ‘creations’ are diverse and unpredictable. As a creative director, her graphic and branding projects include the Youth Olympics Games, Singapore Pavilion at the World Expo Yeosu 2012, The National Art Gallery Singapore, Artstage Singapore, Singapore Writers’ Festival 2014, and more.

Miriam Fanning

Miriam Fanning
Principal, Mim Design (Australia)

Miriam Fanning (Mim) has been designing for more than 20 years, and is the Founder and Principal Interior Designer at the award-winning multi-disciplinary practice Mim Design, respected for its creativity, high end finishes and attention to detail.

Miriam founded Mim Design in 2000. Based in South Yarra, Mim Design is a mid-sized studio with a team of 25 that delivers design projects from individual and multi-residential, through to hospitality, hotel and retail. Mim Design has been nominated for and won a myriad awards for work on projects including Seed Heritage and Upper West Side.

Patrick MAcklin

Patrick Macklin
Head of Department, Interior Design, The Glasgow School of Art (UK)

Patrick is Head of Department and Programme Leader for both the undergraduate and masters programmes in Interior Design at The Glasgow School of Art. He is also Programme Leader for the departmental partnership in Singapore, and sits on the Council of Interior Educators (IE), the national subject body for the discipline.

Patrick’s research is directed towards the nature, quality and value of the interior in urban contexts.

His work has been featured and referenced in iD, Blueprint, The Guardian, and The Herald. He has also lectured in Singapore and Beijing, and participated in academic panels in the UK, South Asia and the Middle East.

Peter Tay

Peter Tay
Founder and Design Director, Peter Tay Studio (Singapore)

Peter Tay of Peter Tay Studio is the celebrity interior designer to stars such as Zhang Ziyi, Stephanie Sun, and Zoe Tay. His portfolio comprises high-profiled residential projects, as well as commercial work such as boutiques and showrooms for Manolo Blahnik, Armani Casa, Louis Poulsen, Maxalto, By Appointment (Space Showroom) as well as showflats for SC Global.

Peter Tay graduated from the Architectural Association in London in 2000 and worked with some of the leading contemporary architects before starting his own practice in 2001.

In 2013, he published his first monograph, and in 2014, won the President’s Design Award “Designer of the Year”.

Rene Tan

Rene Tan
Co-founder and Director, RT+Q Architects (Singapore)

As an architect, Malaysia-born Rene Tan is highly versed in his craft; yet he also excels in other disciplines. Rene attained his Bachelor of Arts in Music and Architecture from Yale, and his Master of Architecture from Princeton.

His background in music has powerfully influenced the way he approaches architecture at award-winning studio RT+Q, the firm he co-founded with T. K. Quek in 2003. With each project, Rene attempts to find a rhythm of space and a melody of proportion – a theme he revisits time and again.

Rene has served as a juror for the World Architecture Festival awards. He also speaks at architectural symposiums. In 2016, Rene was named President’s Design Award “Designer of the Year”.

Steve Leung

Steve Leung
Founder, Steve Leung Designers (Hong Kong)
(2015 – 2017) President-Elect, (2017 – 2019) President of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI)

Hong Kong-born Steve Leung is a leading architect, interior and product designer whose works reflect a sophisticated and unique character of minimalism, with skillful adoption of Asian culture and arts.

Steve is founder of Steve Leung Architects (SLA), Steve Leung Designers (SLD), Steve Leung Hospitality (SLH), Steve Leung Exchange (SLX) and Steve Leung Lifestyle (SLL) that together offer a highly diversified range of services and expertise.

Headquartered in Hong Kong with branches in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu, SLD has more than 400 staff working on projects spread over 100 cities all over the world.

Over the past 20 years, Steve has led numerous famed projects in China and overseas that have received high acclaim worldwide. Steve has also won many awards, including being listed at The 30 Most Influential Designers by FORBES China.
