Home Type: 5-bedroom condominium

Floor Area: 3,500 sqft

This spacious apartment is home to a French husband, his Japanese wife and their three daughters. Given the family’s unique cultural makeup, Wayne Pung from Poetus has designed a home with references to Oriental culture and French Classicism.

One of the first things Wayne did was to transform the communal areas into one large and airy space. He removed the boundary walls, merging these areas into a single triangular zone that’s ideal for family bonding and party hosting. Now, the dining room looks into the dry kitchen, and both spaces are immediately connected to the living room and lounge area.

To keep this home feeling bright and airy, the designer opted for soft, airy shades of ivory. These can be found on the walls, doors and even on selected furniture pieces. When paired with whitewashed engineered wooden floors, the rooms become a willing canvas for classical and Oriental furnishings, as well as colourful motifs and patterns to be showcased.

Designing the impressively large dry kitchen came with its fair share of obstacles. The challenge, says Wayne, came mainly from the fittings and fixtures. “We had to make sure that we could fit everything nicely into the customised carpentry. This includes the Lacanche range cooker, Subzero refrigerator and the specially imported tap and sink.” For the heightened sense of luxe, the counter is topped with Statuario marble.

The sense of considered luxury continues in the private quarters. In the bathroom for example, walls, floors and vanity counter are clad in marble, making a grand and elegant statement.
