For their new 5-room HDB BTO flat in Bukit Batok, the homeowners wanted a modern look and a spacious feel, as well as an entertainment room.

Designer Alan Yap of AC Vision Design incorporated neutral colours and clean-lined contemporary aesthetics to create a place that meets the needs of the family of three.

In the living room, Alan designed a full-height backlit TV feature wall to anchor the space. He extended it across the entire wall, also incorporating display niches and storage cabinets.

The shelves and wall-mounted console, below the TV, are finished in the same dark brown laminate for consistency.

Even with a muted palette of neutrals, the home feels bright and airy, thanks to an open layout. The designer had reworked the interior structure to achieve more interactive, social spaces.

Since the open kitchen can be seen from the living area, Alan selected similar neutral-hued laminates for the top-hung cabinets to keep with the colour theme.

Behind the living area, a spare bedroom was turned into a TV room for the family. Part of the wall was hacked and replaced with metal-framed glass panels, allowing the space to serve as a visual extension of the living area, and allowing for brighter interiors.
