The owners of this four-room flat wanted their home to reflect their personalities and were open to experimentation. Importantly, the space had to incorporate both Scandinavian design and feng shui elements, and these requirements ultimately had a great influence on Loft.nine Design Studio’s proposed layout and colour scheme. With significant reconfiguration to the common areas, the unit is now airy and open.
“The homeowners desired an open- concept kitchen to improve the sense of space and flow throughout the unit,” says Kya Yee, interior designer at Loft.nine. Besides demolishing the kitchen walls, the designer also removed one bedroom to accommodate a spacious dining area, and the entire communal space now feels so much more open and visually connected.
The bar counter separates the dining from the kitchen and is a perfect arrangement for entertaining, allowing the homeowners to interact with guests while preparing meals or to hang out with friends. It’s also a great spot for a quick breakfast before heading out the door.
The kitchen feels warm and inviting thanks to the pairing of woodgrain patterns and deep green surfaces. Exemplifying the merging of style and function, the space features ample cabinets for storage and countertop space for food preparation, while lovely details such as the farmhouse- inspired magazine shelf offers a spot to showcase the owners’ art.
By relocating the dining area to the space where bedroom 3 once stood, the homeowners now enjoy a significantly more spacious living area. Adopting a minimalist approach to furnishing, the cream-coloured sofa, wooden TV console, and window blinds perfectly complement the Scandinavian- inspired interior, enhancing its soothing and laid-back vibe.
