Curves take the spotlight in this softly contoured 4-room HDB flat, crafted for a stylish young couple who favour gentle flow over rigid lines. From arched ceilings to rounded carpentry details, every aspect was carefully woven together by Senior Designer Marcus Chong of Woodcraft Interior Design to create a space that feels flowing and effortlessly inviting.
“The couple wanted a cosy and welcoming home, so we focused on rounding off all the edges and introducing curved elements wherever possible,” Marcus shares. The result is an organic-looking and expressive layout, anchored by soaring arched ceilings and curved transitions that echo throughout the flat.
A custom curved TV console with a matching feature wall sets the tone in the living area. Vinyl flooring in a herringbone arrangement adds texture while echoing the home’s soft, flowing lines.
A drywall arch frames the dining nook, and beside it, the kitchen features a rounded counter which anchors the space. Custom-built for daily use and casual hosting, the counter was designed by Marcus to suit the homeowners’ relaxed, sociable lifestyle – perfect for coffee breaks and entertaining friends.
The curves extend into the open-concept kitchen, where counters and cabinet doors are softened with rounded edges for a seamless, sculptural look. These gentle contours lend a sense of spaciousness, making the kitchen feel more welcoming.
Fluted glass sliding doors installed on a ghost track allow diffused daylight to enter through the yard, casting a soft glow that enhances the dreamy, calming atmosphere. Recessed lighting, selected to complement the home’s palette, further heightens the serene mood.
In the master bedroom, now merged with a common room, a platform bed and curved wall divider continue the soft aesthetic. Clean lines and built-in storage keep the space restful and clutter-free, while Marcus reconfigured the expanded layout to include a boutique-style walk-in wardrobe that suits the couple’s daily routines.
The two bathrooms also carry a soft design language, with the master ensuite featuring a curved shampoo niche and rounded details throughout. In the common bathroom, a half-height wall topped with a curved-edged shower screen creates a light and cohesive space.
Completed in just two months, the $90,000 renovation showcases Marcus’ expertise. With rounded corners and seamless transitions, the flat offers more than visual appeal – it embodies warmth, flow and personal style.
