Finding a balance between the oriental and modern elements was a key consideration for the couple who put in a lot of thought when it came to the material palette and furnishing. “They wanted to implement Chinese culture into the modern world that we live in,” explains creative director Kef Tan of d’Phenomenal, who is also friends with the homeowners and clearly understood their tastes.

From the living room to the kitchen and master bedroom, rattan accents lend stylish detailing as they are playfully inserted in varying shapes and sizes on cabinets and wardrobes, breaking the uniformity of the wood pattern.

“Rather than being used as a functional material, rattan is portrayed as feature panels where its weaves can be admired like artworks.”

Interestingly, small pockets on the rattan weave help air the contents of the wardrobe to prevent mildew. A glass cabinet breaks the monotony of the wardrobe and enable the homeowners to proudly display their prized possessions.

Lighting plays a big part in creating different moods throughout the day. Come nightfall, the walk-in wardrobe changes its look and feel with floor lighting, which sets the right tone and mood as the couple gets ready for a night out.
