A retired couple reside in this condominium unit with their two adult daughters. As frequent leisure travellers, they are partial to statement designs that are reminiscent of high style hotels and showrooms. Therefore, they specified for a contemporary home that speaks of timeless sophistication.
A double volume ceiling induces an immense impression of space in this condominium unit, but the designers from Black N White Haus were presented with the challenge of introducing adequate lighting into this high-ceilinged space. As a response, they created a framed box design for the ceiling feature with recessed spotlights and without it looking too complicated or overdone. This understated ceiling feature ties in well with the sumptuous material palette of wood and gold accents.
To establish a cohesive design language, the designers employed tinted mirrors and wood strips in the communal zones. Starting from the foyer, this cosy yet chic ensemble greets all with the custom-built console display shelf paired with shoe storage. It shares a visual connection with the living and dining zones, which are all beautifully decked out in touches of gold and wood.
With access to the lavish views of the balcony and the double volume ceiling, the semi-open setup of the galley kitchen enjoys optimum daylight. The glass panels set on overhead metal racks further accentuate the light-filled expanse. Practical storage has indeed been meticulously planned without any obstruction to the light flow and walking space.
Keeping in mind the homeowners’ design brief of having touches of modern luxury in their home, the design team worked in a large bronze mirror panel just above the kitchen glass enclosure. This clever addition plays up the soaring ceiling height and is bordered by a black frame for a modern classic style treatment.
A custom-built desk maximises space and light flow in the daughter’s bedroom. By having it mounted on the wall and integrated with the raised platform bed, the compact table takes up barely any floor space. Additional storage comes in the form of overhead shelving, pull-out drawers beneath the platform bed and a full height wall cabinet with a mirrored door.
Bedecked with custom carpentry, every inch of the master bedroom has been well planned by the designers to work in additional amenities for grooming, entertainment and relaxation. Wood strip details adorn the feature wall behind the headboard and anchor the dressing table with modern finesse. The latter is integrated with a storage settee, which allows the homeowners to wind down by the window.
