When a home already has good bones, smart design is about deciding what stays — and what gets refined. For this 1,615-square-foot District 10 apartment, IB Interior’s brief was to reimagine the space with the easy elegance of California casual living (read: light-filled, comfortable, and quietly sophisticated) but with a more global sensibility rooted craftsmanship and heritage pieces.

The homeowners — a friendly couple who love their wine, books, and art — wanted a home that felt both personal and poised. They also came with plenty of furniture from their previous place, so IB Interior approached the renovation like a spatial remix: fine-tuning what existed, editing what didn’t, and ensuring every piece found its place.

The living area pivots around a deep-green heirloom sofa — reupholstered to preserve its sentimental weight — and a marble coffee table that travelled with them. Warm wood tones, beige limewash walls, and a TV console finished in a laminate shade inspired by the wife’s favourite colour, Hermes orange, gives the room its easy vibrancy. The palette feels sun-drenched yet grounded, a soft counterpoint to the home’s structured layout.

From the private lift lobby, guests are greeted by a foyer with a rattan laminated ceiling cladding and framed swing dividers — a clever way to define entry without closing it off. The same thoughtfulness extends to a customised display cabinet that houses the couple’s collectibles, softly lit to create that “wow” moment upon arrival.

Then there’s the wine pantry — a showpiece that blurs the line between bar and art installation. A green marble sintered-stone countertop and backsplash tie it back to the living room’s heirloom sofa, while glass cabinetry frames their bottles and glasses like prized artefacts. It’s indulgent, but never loud.

Everywhere else, IB Interior’s sense of craft is pragmatic. Tiles, parquet flooring and selected built-ins were retained, with some features refreshed with new elements to tie in with the home’s updated aesthetic.

The dining area, anchored by the couple’s round table and a pendant from Sol Luminaire, flows naturally into the kitchen — redesigned in soft taupe tones, with a concealed door to the service yard neatly disguised as part of the cabinetry.

The couple work from home, and the separate study spaces carry different personalities: his lined with books and a daybed for reading; hers anchored by an L-shaped desk in what the designers jokingly called a “#bossbabe orientation.” Even the humble shoe closet was engineered with near-architectural precision to manage differing depths and an uneven footprint.

In the master suite, a new dresser complements the existing wardrobe, and the ensuite bath brings serenity through travertine and darker stone-washed tiles. Throughout, the atmosphere is tactile and composed — a home that celebrates light, texture, and the couple’s quietly expressive lifestyle.
