Designed to support efficient routines and regular family visits, this Yio Chu Kang condominium was reworked to feel open and inviting. Led by interior designer Yeap Sheng of MET Interior, the renovation focused on clear spatial planning, generous storage and a layout that accommodates daily living. “The homeowners envisioned a comfortable and welcoming home where their parents could visit and stay with ease, Yeap Sheng shares.

The living area sets the tone for the home with its warm woody palette and seamless wall-to-wall carpentry that keeps visual clutter to a minimum. Integrated storage spans the length of the space, allowing everyday items to be neatly concealed while maintaining a calm, cohesive backdrop. The restrained palette and carpentry reflect the female homeowner’s preference for thoughtful design and carefully considered finishes.

Tucked discreetly within this expansive feature is a dedicated piano nook, thoughtfully carved out to support the homeowners’ lifestyle without disrupting the room’s visual flow. “We wanted the living area to feel open and connected, while still accommodating different daily activities within one continuous design,” Yeap Sheng explains.

From here, the sense of continuity extends to the dining area and dry pantry, which together form a shared zone centred around the homeowners’ daily habits. Integrated cabinetry, open shelves, and generous countertop space support both casual meals and relaxed evenings at home.

A dedicated coffee corner was also built into the layout — a small but meaningful detail for the male homeowner. “He enjoys starting his day with coffee, so we designed a space specifically for his daily brewing routine,” Yeap Sheng adds.

The wet kitchen sits discreetly beyond, fully enclosed to accommodate heavy cooking while maintaining a refined aesthetic. “By reconfiguring the original yard, we created a clearly defined wet kitchen and expanded the dry pantry, allowing it to flow more cohesively with the living area,” Yeap Sheng explains.

The bedrooms were designed as calm, adaptable spaces that prioritise comfort for both the homeowners and their visiting parents. A subtle two-tone wall treatment and built-in wardrobes for the common bedroom create a restful backdrop, while providing generous storage to keep personal belongings neatly organised.

As part of a broader reconfiguration, the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom were extended to accommodate a dedicated study area and a double vanity. The study zone, which had to serve both homeowners, was incorporated without compromising the bedroom’s restful atmosphere.

The master bathroom is accessed through a gently framed opening, where full-height carpentry gives way to a soft fabric curtain in place of a conventional door. This understated transition recalls the use of textile partitions in Japanese interiors, filtering views while allowing light to pass through and subtly marking the shift from bedroom to bath.

Beyond, the space opens up into a calm, light-filled master ensuite made for everyday functionality. The extended layout accommodates a generous sintered stone double vanity countertop, making daily routines feel quietly restorative.

Completed within three months at a cost of $120,000, the home reflects MET Interior’s hands-on approach to planning, detailing, and spatial refinement. “We focused on creating a home that feels calm and genuinely welcoming, one that supports everyday life while allowing the space to breathe,” says Yeap Sheng.
