These are the projects our international judging panel has picked as some of the most noteworthy landed properties in Singapore.

LBDA 2018 shortlist for outstanding landed home ARKHILITE Lofty Lines and Light

1) Project name: Lofty Lines and Light
Project type: 3-storey landed house
Firm: ARKHILITE

To meet the desire for ample daylight in the home, interventions included fully extending the height of the foldable doors at the ground floor, and removing as many external walls on the upper floors to create new windows. To address the narrow width of the house, the designers used the concept of lines to make the spaces look taller, wider and longer.

LBDA 2018 shortlist for outstanding landed home three-d conceptwerke The Steel House

2) Project name: The Steel House
Project type: Detached house
Firm: three-d conceptwerke

The owners wanted to balance the luxury of space with the ‘kampong spirit’ – living simply and essentially, with communal spaces to bring the family together. The house connects harmoniously from its root: its natural environment, all the way to its inhabitants. Functionality is equally important, and with that in mind the designers went back to the basic engineering theories of constructing a house from the ground up.

lLBDA 2018 shortlist for outstanding landed home ASOLIDPLAN Upper House, Lower House

3) Project name: Upper House, Lower House
Project type: Strata townhouse
Firm: ASOLIDPLAN

This 5-storey townhouse is home to two siblings and their respective families. The site is architecturally significant as one of DP Architects’ first projects in the 1980s, and the interventions are respectful of the existing building. The architectural interventions are designed to unify the two dwellings, while the interior design brings out the individuality of the two families.

LBDA 2018 shortlist for outstanding landed home LAANK Culture House

4) Project name: Culture House
Project type: Terrace House
Firm: LAANK

Peranakan heritage meets a black-and-white colonial aesthetic in this terrace house. The designers drew inspiration from the aged wooden tones of a colonial palette and materials with Peranakan motifs. They also referenced the layouts of colonial bungalows and Peranakan shophouses. The goal was to create a homely, cosy and dog-friendly space inspired by the rest of the neighbourhood – yet carrying its own unique touch.

LBDA 2018 shortlist for outstanding landed home the monocot studio Miltonia Residences

5) Project name: Miltonia Residences
Project type: Terrace House
Firm: the monocot studio

The clients wanted to incorporate Japanese influences with a touch of luxury in the common spaces of their home. It also had to be as open as possible and provide sufficient storage space for their grandson’s toys, and areas to display art and decorative objects. Walls between the living, dining and kitchen areas were removed while slim tiles were selected to connect the spaces visually. Timber and marble were introduced for texture and to enhance the sense of luxury. Other unique features include a fully concealed sliding panel to hide the TV and a built in sofa.

LBDA 2018 shortlist for outstanding landed home Metaphor Studio Urban Oasis

6) Project name: Urban Oasis
Project type: Semi-detached house
Firm: Metaphor Studio

Every bedroom in this house is a suite with an attached bathroom. The project eschews trendy design elements in favour of natural materials that complement the surrounding mature greenery. Each bedroom suite is planned differently from the entryway to their storage organisation. With the front of the house receiving strong western sunlight, automated louvers have been employed to create a well-ventilated bedroom with attached bathroom.
