The homeowners wanted a space primed for entertaining, but bearing in mind size of the house, the team from Design Rebirth had to bring the design down to a more human scale. Design Director Victor Loh says: “Given the sheer volume of this house, we needed to get the proportions right.” One of the ways he instilled design harmony was through the use of similar materials. The dry kitchen has been topped with a suar wood worktop and a similar treatment appears in the dining space.

Another key requirement the homeowners had was to be able to showcase their art collection. To create a focal point for art to be displayed in the dining area, Victor designed an impressive installation of metal and timber and accentuated it with sculptural lighting fixtures. He says: “This design feature highlights the triple volume ceiling, and gives the staircase a more distinctive style.”

For a gallery-inspired home that is also welcoming, layers of wood tones do well to imbue warmth and enhance various design details. The striking form of the staircase for example, is further underscored by the range of rich-hued wood finishes.

The master bedroom is elegant and beautifully understated. “We wanted to emulate the hotel-inspired style with simple but refined aesthetics,” says Victor. By using plush padded fabric panels and soft furnishings, the space exudes a calm and collected ambience with a touch of class.
