With an appreciation for the finer things in life, the owners of this condo in Bidadari yearned for a comfortable home where they would feel instantly at ease. They sought the expertise of Pamela Ong, Director at Third Avenue Studio, who delivered a wonderfully soothing scheme with a renovation budget of $130,000.
“The clients love travelling, art and coffee. They also like things to be organised and are open to smart and creative storage solutions,” says Pamela. While this is a brand-new unit, the homeowners were not completely pleased with the original layout. Pamela stepped in to execute a major reconfiguration to address their needs for a larger master bedroom, a guest bathroom, and a more convivial kitchen.
Describing this project as collaborative effort, the designer recalls how her clients pitched ideas like having wooden ceiling beams in the living room. This led her to design a matching television console and a feature wall with strip panels for added texture.
The kitchen’s reconfiguration was quite drastic, considering its space limitations. Pamela explains: “The original layout was small and enclosed and to give it a welcoming entrance, we combined it with the study.”
With the layout altered into a semi open-concept space, she added sliding barn doors to contain the heavy cooking smells. Before that, she encountered the challenge of sourcing for a double-track barn door locally. She says: “We ended up importing the doors from the US, where barn tracks are common and the choices are plentiful.”
A dream to cook and entertain in, the kitchen is equipped with a smart KKPL pull-down storage system offering easy access to stored items, and a hardwearing Caesarstone quartz countertop for the island. It combines functionality with luxury, especially with the overhead cabinets ramping up the sophistication with its trimmings and handles in gold finishes.
Now a spacious and serene space for rest, the master bedroom’s expansion has improved its spatial flow. Pamela says: “The master bedroom used to have a wardrobe in the middle of the room, which has been removed. We also relocated the entrance to increase the size of the space.”
Fitted with a new L-shaped wardrobe, the bedroom’s custom-made unit features personalised storage solutions such as a pull-out drawer to house the projector. Having a curved detail on the display cabinet presents a softer and more polished look for the storage unit.
After merging two bathrooms, plans to enlarge the master bathroom’s shower stall had to be shelved due to the presence of a structural wall. However, Pamela maximised the available space by installing a stylish vanity counter, ensuring no area went unused.
Double sinks make stunning additions to the master bathroom and render an elevated touch. A two-tone tile treatment for the walls creates a beautiful backdrop against the existing tiled flooring.
As far as living well goes, this home has captured its homeowners’ hearts with a design that is both elegant and inviting.
