Budding furniture designers often find it difficult to break into the local market. This is partly because there’s isn’t a regular platform for them to showcase their creativity and talent. Local furniture retailer
Star Furniture Group understands the predicament and has recently launched its inaugural
D’STAR Design Award to uncover budding furniture design talents.
The competition calls for students from any design institution to submit a furniture design based on the theme ‘Home Habits. The shortlisted finalists will be given the opportunity to visit a furniture factory, and will be one of the lucky few to have their designs made into a prototype.
After three rounds of competition, three winners will be chosen, and they stand to win attractive prizes. Two winners will receive $1,000 cash each, and one Grand Winner will win a trip to the
2014 Milan Furniture Fair (iSaloni Trade Fair) worth $5,000.
The competition is open to all full-time Design students from local Polytechnics, Universities and other recognised design institutions; and the submission deadline is 9 June 2013.
